Washington, Oct. 13 – President Donald Trump helped sign a historic peace agreement ending the Israel‑Hamas war in Gaza on Monday. The deal came after Hamas released all 20 Israeli hostages and was signed in Egypt, where Trump was on the second leg of his Middle‑East visit.

Trump flew into Sharm el‑Sheikh and met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el‑Sissi. “This is an incredible day for the world, let alone the Middle East,” Trump told reporters. He added that the agreement is the “biggest, most complicated deal” and that it will “hold up.”

The signing ceremony also welcomed leaders from around the globe – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and others – making it a true summit of world heads of state.

During a one‑on‑one with el‑Sissi, Trump said the “second phase of my peace plan has started.” He praised Egypt’s role and highlighted the need for cleanup after the fighting. The Egyptian president thanked Trump for what he called “the only one who could bring this about” and stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and restoring humanitarian aid.

Trump’s 20‑point plan for Gaza proposes a temporary technocratic government. Israel would not annex the Strip, and residents won’t be forced to leave. An international transitional body called the Board of Peace—to be chaired by Trump and chaired, in turn, by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair—will oversee Gaza’s build‑out until the Palestinian Authority can take control. The plan also offers amnesty to Hamas members that accept peace and safe‑passage for those who do not. Security will be managed by regional and international forces that will train Palestinian police, while aid will flow in according to agreed levels.

This agreement marks a new chapter for Gaza and the wider region, with Trump pledging ongoing US support for dialogue and long‑term coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.
