The Indian Army says it shot down two terrorists on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Oct 14.
Army patrols spotted a suspicious group moving near the LoC and fired a warning. The soldiers engaged the infiltrators, killing both terrorists in the burst of gunfire. Officials said more details will follow.
Security forces are on 24/7 watch along the LoC and the surrounding hills as heavy snowfall threatens to close the mountain passes this winter.
There are reports that many terrorists are already parking at launch pads in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (PoK), hoping to cross to the Indian side before the passes shut. While the exact number changes daily, estimates put the threat at around 100 infiltrators.
The Indian Army, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu and Kashmir police are working together to dismantle the local terrorist network. They target not only the fighters but also their over‑the‑ground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers who ferry supplies like weapons, drugs and cash from Pakistan.
The LoC stretches 740 km across Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and parts of the Jammu district, while the 240‑km International Border lies in the Jammu division.
To counter newer threats, the BSF and the Army have deployed special anti‑drone gear along both the IB and the LoC, aiming to destroy drones that carry arms and other illicit payloads into the region.
