Chipmaking supplier ASML set to ride AI megadeals wave

Artificial intelligence is reshaping every part of the economy, and the machines that help produce the chips that power those AI systems are suddenly in high demand. That’s where ASML comes in. The Dutch company supplies the world’s most advanced photolithography tools—especially its extreme‑ultraviolet (EUV) machines—used by the biggest silicon makers, from TSMC to Samsung and Intel. With AI models now driving traffic to data centers and new GPU launches, ASML’s systems are becoming essential for building the next generation of chips.

ASML’s revenue forecast for 2024 reflects that surge. The company expects earnings to exceed $10 billion, up more than 15 percent from the previous year. The core driver? A wave of AI megadeals. Nvidia’s launches of Hopper GPUs, Google’s AI‑accelerated chips, and Microsoft’s Azure AI offerings all require new memory and processor nodes that need the precision of EUV lithography.

“We’ve seen a steady uptick in orders for EUV machines, which are the most advanced lithography tools out there,” said Boris van der Laan, ASML’s chief operating officer. “The AI market is the largest catalyst for that demand right now.” ASML already delivered 56 EUV machines to TSMC in 2023, and orders for the next year are projected to reach a record high.

In the chipmaking industry, speed and yield matter. EUV lithography allows manufacturers to place smaller features on silicon, boosting chip performance while keeping production costs under control. That advantage is why ASML’s equipment is in short supply: the company can deliver only a handful of EUV systems a year, and multiple customers will compete for the few machines that become available.

Investors and analysts note that the AI boom is unlikely to wane soon. The semiconductor industry’s growth is now largely tied to ML workloads, autonomous vehicles, and Internet‑of‑Things expansion—all of which demand higher‑performance chips. ASML’s ability to scale its production lines while maintaining quality is a key competitive edge.

For consumers, the ripple effects are clear: lower prices for smartphones, faster smart‑home devices, and improved cloud gaming. For the chip industry, the key takeaway is that every new AI milestone is likely to come with a fresh purchase of an ASML machine.

In short, ASML is poised to ride the AI megadeals wave. As demand for AI chips climbs, the Dutch company’s EUV lithography tools will be the backbone of the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing.
