Melbourne, Oct 14 – The Australian team has to make a few changes ahead of the first ODI against India on Sunday. Wicket‑keeper Josh Inglis can’t play because his calf strain from the T20 tour of New Zealand still hasn’t fully healed. Adam Zampa also bows out for family reasons.
Australia has added Josh Philippe and spinner Matthew Kuhnemann to the lineup. Philippe, who had joined the squad back in New Zealand as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell, will play his first ODIs since the West Indies tour in 2021. Kuhnemann will try again at 50‑over level after his last appearance in 2022, while the other spinners in the side are all‑rounders Matt Short and Cooper Connolly.
Zampa is expected to re‑join the squad for the second ODI on Oct 23. The board says Inglis should be back for the third match in Sydney on Oct 25.
Alex Carey has been left out of the first ODI to keep busy with South Australia’s second Sheffield Shield match against Queensland, a key part of his build‑up to the Ashes. He will return for the second ODI in Adelaide.
India’s white‑ball tour, led by new captain Shubman Gill, starts with the Perth Stadium ODI on Oct 19, followed by games at Adelaide Oval and the Sydney Cricket Ground on Oct 23 and 25. After the series, the teams will face off in a five‑match T20I series that kicks off on Oct 29. The last time India toured Australia for an ODI series in 2020‑21, the visitors lost 2‑1 but won the accompanying T20I series by the same margin.
