Punjab Police bust smuggling module linked to Canada, Pakistan

In Punjab, police in Amritsar have raided a cross‑border smuggling ring that connected Canada and Pakistan. The arrest and seizure took place on October 14, 2023, in the Dairiwal village, which falls under the Tarsikka police station.
Amritsar Rural Police hauled in Amarbir Singh, a local resident, and seized six pistols, 11 magazines, 91 .30‑bore cartridges and 20 9mm rounds from him. Police say Singh had just come back from Canada and was working with Pakistani smugglers.
Police filed a first information report (FIR) and will continue to track the rest of the network. They aim to trace the supply chain, find other operatives, and break up the whole smuggling system.
A day earlier, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of Amritsar partnered with the Border Security Force (BSF). The joint raid recovered a stash of three weapons near the Khemkaran border at Tarn Taran. The haul included two AK‑47 rifles, a PX5 Storm pistol, an AK‑47 magazine, two pistol magazines, and ammunition. Officials say the guns were brought from Pakistan.
Assistant Inspector General Sukhminder Singh Mann told reporters that the BSF had received intel about a shipment of militant hardware crossing the border. Acting quickly, the police and BSF combed a village called Mehdipur and seized weapons there. The origin of the recovered hardware is still under investigation, and authorities are working to identify and arrest everyone involved.
Punjab’s Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the investigation is expanding to break the full smuggling network, and more arrests are expected as more links are uncovered.
