Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s long‑time prime minister, is back in court today for his graft trial. The hearing takes place at the Tel Aviv District Court, where the former leader is facing new charges that could keep him out of office for years.

The judge will examine whether Netanyahu arranged a video‑chat with a U.N. envoy to push for a military deal in 2019, and whether he used his position to influence the outcomes of a contract. Prosecutors argue the move helped the government secure a lucrative telecommunications license and the remains of a shipment of Israeli missiles.

The case follows a series of investigations that have already frozen Netanyahu’s bank accounts, seized assets and created a cloud of doubt over his political future. Analysts say the trial is a key test for Israel’s democratic institutions, and could set a precedent for how corruption is handled in the Middle East.

Netanyahu’s lawyer said the charges are “an unfair attempt to silence a voice that has been important to Israel.” He added that his client will defend himself vigorously. For now, the nation watches as the legal proceedings continue, with many hoping the trial will clarify if corruption laws in Israel hold even the highest leaders accountable.
