Stephen Graham, the British actor who just earned his first Emmy for Adolescence, has captured the admiration of none other than Bruce Springsteen. In a recent interview at Spotify’s London headquarters, “The Boss” praised Graham for his portrayal of his own father in the new biopic Springsteen: Delivery Me From Nowhere.

During the Q&A, Springsteen told the audience that Graham “really embodied the physicality and emotional complexity of my father.” He added that Graham captured Douglas Springsteen’s troubled spirit—his battles with alcoholism, bipolar disorder, and other mental health issues—and that toward the film’s climax audiences see his father’s hidden strength and tenderness.

The film, directed by Scott Cooper and produced by Searchlight Pictures, follows the rock legend’s creation of the 1982 album Nebraska. Jeremy Allen White plays a young Bruce as he records the iconic tracks, with Graham’s performance furnishing a grounding, older presence.

White revealed that Springsteen handed him a rare 1955 Gibson J200 guitar for the role, which became the instrument featured in the movie’s scenes. He also joked about bringing a jump rope to the set, thinking it would help him keep his energy up between takes. “I realized I didn’t need it—Bruce-level stamina comes naturally when you’re in front of the camera,” he laughed.

The stars’ collaboration highlights how personal stories and authenticity can translate into powerful cinema. With Graham’s Emmy‑winning talent and Springsteen’s vocal support, Springsteen: Delivery Me From Nowhere promises to be a compelling look at the legendary musician’s life and legacy.
