Karnataka BJP slams state govt over potholes menace

Opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy slammed the Congress‑led Karnataka government today over its bungling of Bengaluru’s pothole crisis. Speaking at the BJP’s Jagannath Bhavan office, the council member raised the question of where the Rs 750 crore earmarked for filling Bengaluru’s cracked roads had gone.

Narayanaswamy criticized the state government for leaving flood‑hit areas and drought zones untouched. “Even after heavy rains, the Congress government did nothing,” he said. “It was only after the opposition visited the flood‑stricken places that the Chief Minister flew in and made announcements that never reached the people.”

He pointed out that residents in Kalaburagi, Chikkodi and Vijayapura are already marching on the streets in protest, while districts such as Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Tumakuru and Kolar continue to face severe drought without any visible action from the cabinet.

On the pothole issue, Narayanaswamy noted that every monsoon drags water into the cracks, creating a “bucket of roads that the leaders can’t seem to fix.” “The Congress government keeps blaming the BJP for the potholes even though we were in power for two and a half years,” he added. “We filled the holes before they became a problem, but now they claim they have spent Rs 750 crore on repairs. Where is that money? Why are the roads still wrecked?”

The BJP’s Karnataka state spokespersons—Prakash Shesharaghavachar, Mohan Vishva, as well as party leaders Rudrayya and H. Hanumanthappa—were present during the remarks.

The incident underscores the growing frustration with the state government’s handling of infrastructure, floods, and drought, all while the opposition calls for transparency and better road management in Bengaluru.
