Patna, Oct 16 – Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, is set to submit his nomination papers this Thursday from the Tarapur constituency for the upcoming state Assembly elections. Launched into office alongside Vijay Kumar Sinha in February, Choudhary now handles a wide range of portfolios, from finance and health to urban development, sports and industrial planning.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Sinha filed his own nomination in Lakhisarai, where he aims for a fourth straight term. He presented his papers in the presence of Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, who visited Bihar to rally support for the ruling coalition ahead of the polls.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its final slate of 18 candidates on Wednesday, completing its allotted 101 seats under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seat‑sharing deal. This follows the party’s earlier releases of 71 candidates on Tuesday and 12 more on Wednesday. With this announcement, the BJP has finalized who will contest all 101 of its constituencies in Bihar.
The Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) also revealed its first candidate list, nominating four people: Madhav Anand in Madhubani, Prashant Kumar Pankaj in Ujiarpur, Snehlata (the wife of party chief Upendra Kushwaha) in Sasaram, and Alok Kumar Singh in Dinara. The RLM has a total of six seats in the alliance.
Under the NDA arrangement, the Janata Dal (United) and the BJP each contest 101 seats, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) fights 29. Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), led by former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, and the RLM each hold six seats. However, some tension remains: HAM’s Manjhi plans to contest Makhdumpur and Bodh Gaya—seats already allotted to the Lahore Jail party—and discussions continue over seats like Mahua and Chakai. RLM leader Upendra Kushwaha met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and promised that any disputes will be resolved within the NDA.
The Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting slated for November 14.
