Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the appointment of Pinna K. Muklom as the new President of the Changlang District Congress Committee in Arunachal Pradesh, effective immediately. The announcement came from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) after Kharge restructured the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) earlier this year, setting up new bodies such as the Political Affairs Committee, Pradesh Election Committee, and Manifesto Committee.

During the APCC re‑constitution, Muklom had been named one of the committee’s secretaries. Now, she steps up as the district’s top Congress leader. The APCC congratulated her on the move in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “Heartiest Congratulations to Mrs Pinna Kitnal Muklom on being appointed as the new President of DCC, Changlang District.”

Earlier this week, the Congress saw a surge of new members in Kanubari, Longding district. More than 2,000 people joined the party – one of the largest political gatherings in recent Arunachal history. The event was a show of strength for the Congress’s leaders in the northeast, including APCC President Bosiram Siram and senior party head Pangjam Wangsa.

Senior leaders such as A Chellakumar and Advocate Mathew Antony (AICC in‑charge for Arunachal) attended the rally, along with state Congress figures. Supporters from Changlang, Tirap and Longding districts came together, and local leaders like Kehang Social, Pinna Kitnal Singpho and Tekwa Tangse were present.

Bosiram Siram said the turnout reflected a “renewed trust in Congress’s vision of peace, development and inclusive governance.” He praised the new members as a “vote of confidence” in the party’s return to grassroots politics.

The rally ran concurrently with the Congress’s nationwide “Vote Chori” (Vote Theft) signature campaign, a protest against alleged electoral malpractice. Congress leaders urged volunteers and supporters to back the campaign, emphasizing the need to protect democratic processes.

The move strengthens Congress’s foothold in Arunachal Pradesh, while the mass joining shows growing momentum for the party in the northeast.
