New Delhi, Oct 17 – Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh urged India to cut its dependence on imports and boost domestic production in fields like life sciences, agriculture, fuel and automotive tech. He made the remarks while launching the opening ceremony of the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025.

The festival will run from December 6 to 9 at Panjab University in Chandigarh under the theme Vigyan Se Samriddhi – “Science to Prosperity.” Singh said the theme captures the next phase of India’s growth, driven by technology, innovation and sustainability. He called the event a celebration of science that fuels the country’s spirit of inquiry and invention.

IISF 2025 will highlight five broad areas:

  1. Science, technology and ecology of North‑West India and the Himalayan region
  2. Science for society and education
  3. Atmanirbhar Bharat through science and technology
  4. Biotechnology and the bio‑economy
  5. Integrating traditional knowledge with modern science

The festival aims to bring together research institutions and innovators from Jammu, Chandigarh and the Himalayan belt. It will feature science exhibitions, B2B meetings, competitions and cultural programmes that connect laboratories to everyday life.

“India’s journey to self‑reliance depends on reducing import dependence and strengthening domestic capacity in life sciences, agriculture, fuel and automotive technology,” Singh added. He urged students, start‑ups and citizens to join the four‑day event, which he described as a platform to move science from lab to land and drive India toward sustainable prosperity.

Since its launch in 2015, IISF has grown into one of the country’s largest forums for promoting scientific temper and public engagement. The 2025 edition promises to showcase how science and innovation continue to propel India toward a greener, more self‑sufficient future.
