The Indian National Congress says that Rahul Gandhi, the party’s Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, will likely kick off his campaign in West Bengal between late November and early December. The visit is expected after the Bihar assembly election results are announced on November 14.
The party’s West Bengal AICC observer, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, told reporters that Congress will deploy its central leadership to Bengal once the Bihar polls finish. “Rahul Gandhi has strong ties with the people here. He will arrive only after the Bihar results are out,” Mir said. He added that Congress has been building grassroots teams for six months, preparing booleans and booth‑level volunteers. Once ready, Rahul will travel to the state, meet locals, and speak on key issues.
Mir said the team aims to have Rahul visit before the New Year, but local party committees must first be strengthened. “By mid‑November, we will have finished that work, and then Rahul will focus on West Bengal,” he explained.
Another senior Congress figure, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is currently a Bihar election observer, will play a prominent role in next‑year’s West Bengal assembly elections. Though Subhankar Sarkar has been named state party president, Chowdhury’s experience and connections still make him an important asset for the campaign.
With the Bihar results dropping, the focus now shifts to West Bengal where Congress hopes to expand its influence ahead of the 2025 state elections.
