Patna, Oct 21 – Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor slammed several top BJP leaders in Patna, saying they pressured the party’s candidates to drop out of the Bihar Assembly polls.
Speaking at Sheikhpura House, Kishor said the BJP feared Jan Suraaj’s growing influence. “The BJP is known for ending up in power no matter who wins the vote. The party that once called Jan Suraaj a vote‑cutter is now scared of us,” he told reporters.
He pointed to Danapur, where businessman Akhilesh Kumar, who had taken a Jan Suraaj ticket, did not file his nomination. BJP officials claimed RJD militants had taken him hostage, yet Kishor argued that Kumar was actually seen with Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. “How can a regular businessman reach the Home Minister? That shows the BJP’s reach,” Kishor said. He added that the party will file a complaint with the Election Commission.
Kishor also posted a photo of Jan Suraaj’s Brahmapur candidate Satya Prakash Tiwari with Dharmendra Pradhan. The doctor, who campaigned for three days, suddenly withdrew his nomination after the meeting. “The central minister met him after the polls were announced. He was forced to quit,” Kishor claimed.
Similarly, Jan Suraaj’s Gopalganj candidate Shashi Shekhar Sinha reported that local BJP leaders applied pressure. “He called me saying he felt threatened, but he kept his stand. A few hours later, he withdrew and stopped answering,” Kishor said.
Kishor emphasized that Jan Suraaj fielded 54 candidates from backward communities and 34 Muslim candidates—more than any other party in Bihar. Senior party leaders, including State President Manoj Bharti, were present at the press conference.
The allegations raise questions about the battlefield of Bihar politics as the Assembly election approaches.
