Bengaluru – Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy told a crowd on Thursday that Indian cinema is watching the Kannada film industry with admiration.
Speaking at an event that marked 50 years of veteran director S. V. Rajendra Singh Babu, the minister praised the “great heights” Kannada films are reaching and urged producers to give more stories a chance to shine. He said the industry needs more actors, more heroes and a steady stream of new releases to keep the momentum going.
Kumaraswamy highlighted Kannada legends Dr Rajkumar, Dr Vishnuvardhan and Ambarish for laying a strong foundation. “To keep that legacy alive, we must make more films and keep telling powerful stories,” he added. The minister warned that fewer Kannada‑language movies are being released, which is pushing audiences toward dubbed titles.
The minister also lauded Rajendra Singh Babu’s half‑century career, noting his family’s dedication to filmmaking. He compared the director to icons like Puttanna Kanagal and Siddalingaiah, who were known for literary‑based films.
The event drew a mix of film insiders and political figures, including former Deputy Chief Minister C. N. Ashwath Narayan, former minister Munirathna, actor Kiccha Sudeep, producer Rockline Venkatesh, and veteran filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli. The gathering highlighted the growing influence of Kannada cinema within India’s vibrant film scene.
