BJP MP Manoj Tiwari cleans Yamuna ghats in his constituency for Chhath festival
New Delhi, Oct 23 – With Chhath Mahaparv just days away, Delhi’s government is stepping up efforts to make the Yamuna ghats cleaner and easier for worshippers to use during the four‑day festival.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, who represents North‑East Delhi, showed up at Wazirabad’s Chhath ghat on Thursday to join a cleanup drive. He toured the route and inspected how the ghats would be prepared for the Chhath Vratis who will gather on the riverbanks.
On X (formerly Twitter) Tiwari posted photos of himself offering “Shramdaan” – a volunteer act – at the ghat. He urged volunteers and workers to join the clean‑up effort, saying a tidy, safe ghat is a shared responsibility. “Today, I inspected Ram Ghat in Wazirabad and joined the Shramdaan at the Chhath Ghat,” he wrote. “Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh Ji, MLA Surya Prakash Khatri and District President U.K. Chaudhary, along with many workers, were present.” He added that both the state and the central government are working to keep the Chhath Vratis problem‑free.
The Chhath Puja, which starts on Oct 25, will have devotees fast, perform strict rituals and gather at the Yamuna ghats each morning and evening to offer prayers to the Sun God, Lord Surya, and his sister Chhathi Maiya.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also called on MPs, MLAs, councillors and party representatives to participate in local cleanliness drives as the city prepares for the festival.
Chhath Puja is a major Hindu celebration especially in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh, focusing on purity, gratitude and family well‑being. The Delhi government’s push for cleaner ghats aims to make the ceremony smooth and safe for all devotees.
