Kerala capital poised to become next Singapore: Adani Vizhinjam Port CEO
Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, is setting its sights on becoming India’s next big logistics hub – a goal that has attracted big‑name companies like Adani Vizhinjam Ports. CEO Pradeep Jayaraman told a panel at the state’s Vision 2031 seminar that the city’s position between a major airport and a growing seaport makes it uniquely ready to handle air‑sea cargo and drive industrial growth.
Jayaraman highlighted the Vizhinjam Port’s current success. The first phase is already running at 120‑130 % of its designed capacity, proving the area’s potential. The company plans a second phase that will add 800 meters of new berth and ultimately create a 2‑kilometre straight‑line berth, one of the longest in India. “With this expansion, we can improve cargo handling and attract more businesses,” he said.
The CEO also praised Kerala’s investor‑friendly policies. He said the state’s industrial incentives, supportive climate, and planned logistics parks give companies a solid foundation to set up operations. “We’re turning Thiruvananthapuram into a world‑class industrial and logistics hub. Together with the government, we can make it India’s gateway for trade and innovation,” Jayaraman added.
The Vision 2031 document, released by the Kerala government, outlines an ambitious roadmap to transform the state into a major industrial powerhouse and the preferred destination for investment. With its growing port, strategic location, and supportive environment, Thiruvananthapuram is poised to follow in Singapore’s footsteps and become a leading player in India’s logistics and trade landscape.
