3rd ODI: Nitish Kumar Reddy unavailable for selection due to left quadriceps injury

India lost key player Nitish Kumar Reddy before the final One‑Day match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The BCCI said the left‑leg quadriceps injury that Reddy suffered in the second ODI in Adelaide kept him out of the squad. He would have been the fourth ball‑control option for India, but the team went with left‑arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav on debut and fast bowler Prasidh Krishna for the game that was already a win for the Aussies.

BCCI medical staff keep Reddy checked daily as the match moves on. India’s bowlers now include three pacers and three spinners. In Adelaide the team lost by just two wickets and pacer Arshdeep Singh appeared to be in cramps, needing medical help on the field. Reddy hadn’t taken any wickets in two games and scored 19 not out and eight runs, so the selectors likely chose to protect him for the upcoming five‑match T20I series in Australia.

The Sydney game was a sell‑out – Cricket Australia said it may be the last chance for stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to bat in Australian conditions. Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh chose to bat, and India’s captain Shubman Gill lost the toss for the third straight time. The match was set to decide the series, already tipped in favour of the home side.
