Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana integrates 36 schemes for farmers’ welfare: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

New Delhi, Oct 25 – Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited an Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) research centre in Vellore this Saturday to talk with farmers about India’s new “One Agriculture – One Nation – One Team” plan. The visit shows that the government is pulling together 36 programmes from 11 ministries under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PM‑DDKY) to give farmers a full package of support.
### Talking to farmers on the ground
At the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Vellore, Chouhan listened to farmers’ concerns and explained how PM‑DDKY, the National Pulses Mission, the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), Cluster Frontline Demonstrations for pulses, and the Fermented Organic Manure programme all fit together. He asked farmers to share feedback on schemes for crops, livestock and fisheries, and gave tips on best practices.
The minister held “Chaupal” meetings – informal round‑table chats – with farmers from Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram districts, all of which are part of the PM‑DDKY programme. He also met with the leaders of four participating KVKs to review how the different schemes are converging.
### Focus on pulses and natural farming
During the second Chaupal, Chouhan highlighted the National Pulses Mission, saying it will help India become self‑reliant in pulse production. He noted that Tamil Nadu will benefit from new pulse varieties, advanced technology and secure marketing channels. He praised the National Pulses Research Centre in Vamban, run by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, for developing improved varieties.
### Why it matters
By integrating 36 schemes from 11 ministries, the PM‑DDKY plan aims to give farmers smoother access to inputs, markets and financial services. This coordinated approach is intended to boost yields, improve incomes and support a move toward natural and sustainable farming practices.
The government’s push to bring together farmers, research centres, and ministries signals a new era of collaboration for India’s agriculture sector, especially in key pulse‑producing states like Tamil Nadu.
