Indian Army flags off ‘Saddle Borne Warriors’ motorcycle rally in Missamari

The Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps kicked off a new “Saddle Borne Warriors” ride from Missamari in Assam on Sunday. Lt Gen Gambhir Singh, the corps’ commander, led the departure with cheering veterans and armed forces officials watching.

A team of more than 55 riders—including active soldiers, veterans, and women motorcyclists—will cover over 900 km in seven days. They’ll travel across the sharp, scenic terrain of the Eastern Himalayas, showing off the courage and teamwork of the army.

The rally pays tribute to the Chhetri Memorial at Tulung La, a monument that honors four brave 5 Assam Rifles soldiers who died in 1975. Every stop along the route gives riders a chance to visit war memorials and remember the sacrifices of fallen soldiers.

During the journey, the ride will cover towns and scenic spots such as Bhalukpong, Tenga, Bomdila, Sela, Jaswantgarh, Mago, Damteng, Tawang and Jung before looping back to Missamari. The route showcases the natural beauty and cultural heritage of West Kameng and highlights the strong bond between serving personnel and veterans.

Road safety is another focus. Soldiers will promote responsible driving, and the event also ties into India’s Fit India campaign. A week earlier, the army and the Indo‑Tibetan Border Police held a 20‑km cycling rally in Aalo, West Siang, showing how common fitness goals can strengthen cooperation between forces.

“This journey embodies the army’s spirit of bravery and unity,” said a PRO Defence spokesperson. “It reminds us that the dedication of previous generations still inspires us today.”
