Allison Janney stayed tight‑lipped when asked about a former co‑star on “Watch What Happens Live!” The 65‑year‑old actress, who is famed for her Emmy‑winning role on The West Wing and a recent Oscar for I, Tonya, played a quick game of “Agree or Disagree” with fellow guest Keri Russell and host Andy Cohen.

Andy asked if they had any co‑stars they’d never want to work with again. Both Janney and Russell raised their signs—one for “agree,” one for “disagree.” The host then promised extra points for naming the celebrity. Janney replied that the person was no longer alive and she wouldn’t speak his name, joking that “I won’t be lulled into a false sense of safety in this small club.” Russell reminded her of her mother’s rule about staying away from gossip: “In the car, windows up, out of the driveway.” Janney laughed and shared that rule.

The two actresses star together in the Netflix drama The Diplomat. Janney plays President Grace Penn while Russell is the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. They praised their on‑screen chemistry, with Janney saying it was one of the best dynamics she’s ever had. In a recent NPR interview, she highlighted how hard Haven fights for her role and how her character is judged harshly in the political world.

Season 3 of The Diplomat introduced Bradley Whitford as the president’s husband. Fans were excited that Whitford and Janney reunited after 19 years together on The West Wing, where Janney earned four Emmy Awards for playing C.J. Cregg. Janney told People magazine that working with Whitford again felt “so easy and comfortable” because of their shared history.

Janney’s accolades stretch beyond television. She won Emmys for The West Wing, Masters of Sex, and Mom, and she earned an Academy Award in 2018 for her supporting role in I, Tonya. When talking about the film’s character LaVona Harding, Janney described it as “the cruelest” role she’d ever played, noting how the character saw her daughter as an escape from a life of heartbreak.

Through her work on stage, screen, and in powerful film roles, Allison Janney continues to captivate audiences with her sharp portrayals and authentic presence.
