A 40‑year‑old NYPD detective and proud mother of three, Alicia Stone, died in Colombia a week after a Brazilian butt‑lift surgery. The sudden death has spurred her grieving husband to push for an investigation and an autopsy.

Stone, a 13‑year veteran in the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, was taken to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital in Cali on Thursday morning after she was found unconscious in her hotel room. Hospital staff pronounced her dead about an hour later. The cause of death was listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest.”

The surgery – a liposuction and gluteal fat transfer (often called a BBL) – was performed on Oct. 16. Stone was on anticoagulants and pain medication as part of her recovery plan and was housed in a nearby hotel while healing. She had reported feeling fine the day before and told family she was okay before the procedure.

“The doctor who called me from Colombia just said she passed away,” Michael Stone told the Daily News. “It’s shocking and hurtful. I need facts. Something doesn’t add up.” He said he will request an autopsy and a probe into what caused her sudden arrest.

A fundraiser honoring Stone described her as “a loving mother, a dedicated public servant who spent her career protecting and serving others.” It also highlighted her kindness, courage and compassion, noting that her loss is deeply felt by family, friends and fellow officers.

Experts say BBL procedures can carry serious risks. In rare cases, fat can enter the bloodstream during injection, leading to a fat embolism that can cause death. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons warns that complications such as this are uncommon but deadly.

After Stone’s death, authorities reached out to the Colombian National Police, the U.S. State Department and a consular services official. The husband contended that an NYPD detective was dispatched to Colombia to investigate the case.

Family members have not yet responded to requests for comment. The investigation is ongoing.
