India, Iran and Armenia emphasise on deepening connectivity cooperation

India, Iran, and Armenia recently wrapped up their third round of trilateral consultations in Tehran, focusing on boosting ties and key projects like the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC). Officials from the three countries reviewed progress from previous meetings and pushed for deeper cooperation in connectivity, trade, and regional development.

The meeting, held on September 9, brought together top diplomats: Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary (PAI) from India’s Ministry of External Affairs; Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Director General for South Asia from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Anahit Karapetyan, Head of the Asia-Pacific Department from Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They co-chaired the discussions, as per the MEA’s update.

Everyone involved expressed excitement about holding these talks regularly every year. They looked back at the first meeting in Yerevan in April 2023 and the second in New Delhi in December 2024, celebrating the steps forward on decisions from those sessions. The goal? To achieve shared interests, spark prosperity, and improve welfare across the region.

During the Tehran talks, the trio highlighted ways to grow economic and trade relations, along with other mutual interests. They also agreed to host the next trilateral consultations in Armenia in 2026.

Recapping the New Delhi meeting from 2024, the countries built on Yerevan’s outcomes by diving into connectivity initiatives like the INSTC and Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” project. They chatted about multilateral engagements, regional updates, and ways to ramp up trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges. Strengthening people-to-people ties topped the agenda, with a special nod to Chabahar Port’s role in making INSTC a success.

These trilateral consultations show how India, Iran, and Armenia are teaming up to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth through projects like INSTC and Chabahar Port.
