Madhya Pradesh need a ‘fresh direction’ for growth, says Kamal Nath on state’s 70th Foundation Day

On Saturday, the state of Madhya Pradesh – its 70th Foundation Day – went into full celebration.
Veteran Congress leader and former chief minister Kamal Nath welcomed citizens to the event and urged the state to chart a “fresh direction” for industry and jobs. “Madhya Pardesh is the heart of India,” he said. “Now it must think anew about industry and employment.” He highlighted the state’s long‑standing role in feeding the country’s food‑grain needs, crediting its 8 million‑strong population for this success.
Nath also touched on the state’s economic health. He called for a boost in the gross state domestic product (GSDP) so Madhya Pardesh can become a developed state. He noted the growing debt burden and urged a stronger focus on growth.
The sitting chief minister, Mohan Yadav, praised the government’s progress since he took office in January 2024. He said the BJP‑led state ministry launched an investment drive in March that has reached local hubs—Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol, Narmadapuram—and gone far beyond, targeting cities such as Mumbai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi, and even overseas markets in the UK, Germany, Japan and Dubai.
“The state is transforming through investment, innovation and jobs,” Yadav said. He highlighted historic gains in industry, agriculture, dairy, energy, environment and social empowerment over the past two years.
The three‑day celebration, themed “Abhyudaya Madhya Pardesh” (Prosperity in Madhya Pardesh), began on November 1 and wraps up on November 3. Chief Minister Yadav will formally open the event and release the Union government’s Vision 2047 document, outlining the state’s priorities for the coming decades.
Main festivities will take place at the Lal Parade Ground, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Around 500 performers will showcase a life‑story play about Lord Krishna, followed by a spectacular drone display with 2,000 aircraft. Local tribal dancers will present traditional dances—including Bhagoria, Karma, Pardhoni, and Gangore—culminating in a grand fireworks finale.
For residents and visitors alike, the day rang loud with culture, commitment to growth, and a bold outlook for Madhya Pardesh’s future.
