Ex-Prince Andrew could be dealt another humiliating blow as King Charles plans to take more action against him
King Charles is stepping in to remove an honor from his brother, Prince Andrew, the former Duke of York. The defence secretary, John Healey, told Sky News that the King has decided Andrew will lose his honorary vice‑admiral rank in the Royal Navy.
Andrew’s military career began in 1993. He flew helicopters in the Falklands War and later commanded a mine‑countermeasures ship. In 2015 the Navy promoted him to vice‑admiral to celebrate his 55th birthday. But in 2022 he was forced to give up most of his military titles after the Jeffrey Epstein scandal made headlines. The last title that remained—an honorary one—has now been targeted by the King.
“The Crown has indicated that this should happen and we are working on the process,” Healey said during a BBC interview. “This is the right move, and we’re taking it on.”
The decision follows years of controversy. Because of the lawsuit and allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, a former Epstein victim, Andrew lost the Duke‑of‑York title and the style “His Royal Highness”. He will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, without the princely title.
Andrew is 65 and lives in a 30‑room house called Royal Lodge, where he currently shares the property with his ex‑wife, Sarah Ferguson. The couple must leave the home within the next three months, following the royal family’s decision.
This latest development marks the end of the last formal link Andrew has to the British throne. The removal of the honorary vice‑admiral title underscores the broader fallout from the Epstein scandal and the Crown’s effort to distance itself from the disgraced former royal.
