New Delhi – Richa Ghosh, India’s wicket‑keeper batter, talks about the role she played in the Women’s World Cup win. She says the job was simple: finish innings strongly by scoring fast in the final overs and keep the scoreboard moving.
In an interview on JioStar’s “Follow The Blues,” the 22‑year‑old explained how she prepared before the tournament. “I spent a lot of time at the crease, building innings,” she said. “Whenever I got a chance to play, I focused on grounded shots and singles, so I wouldn’t lose my wicket. Keeping the scoreboard ticking with single runs was the key.”
She added that her main goal was to boost the team’s chances by hitting quickly at the end. “My aim was to keep a high strike‑rate, put pressure on the bowlers and give India a better chance to win,” Richa said. “Those extra runs reduce pressure on our side.”
During India’s World Cup campaign, Richa delivered several cameo knocks. Her standout performance was a 94‑run strike in 77 balls against South Africa, with 11 fours and four sixes. She says the mindset was simple: “If the ball is in my zone, I hit it. A boundary or a six relieves pressure. If it’s a good ball, I take a single and target the next one.”
The 22‑year‑old credits head coach Amol Muzumdar for clarifying roles and building confidence. “He told us to play fearless cricket and finish innings strongly,” she told JioStar. “He trusted me to hit big shots under pressure and that trust was huge.”
Richa also thanked legendary pacer Jhulan Goswami, who has supported her career since her domestic debut with Bengal. “Jhulan didi has guided me through every phase,” she said. “She taught me to adapt and gave invaluable advice.”
When asked about the team’s winning culture, Richa highlighted the dressing‑room atmosphere. “From day one our team felt like a family. Even in tough moments, we backed each other. That support was our biggest strength.”
She also shared a unique story behind India’s victory song. “We wrote the song before the World Cup and promised to perform it only after lifting the trophy,” she revealed. “At the DY Patil Stadium on the final day, we sang it on the ground. It felt magical.”
After the historic 52‑run win over South Africa in the final, Richa recalls how the team reacted. “When Harman Kaur (captain) took the last catch, we all scattered in different directions,” she said. “We were so overwhelmed we didn’t know how to celebrate. It was a surreal moment, pure joy and disbelief.”
