Mumbai, Nov 4 – Young climbers from the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) Sport Climbing Academy returned from Pune with six medals, boosting India’s standing at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Asian Kids Sport Climbing Championship 2025. The event, held from November 1‑4, brought together 13 countries, including South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Thailand, and featured the three main climbing disciplines: speed, lead, and boulder.
TSAF sent 12 athletes to the championship, and they delivered a strong performance that made headlines across the country. In the boys’ speed categories, Sudharshan Murmu won gold in the Youth C Speed division, while Akash Soren claimed gold in the Youth D Speed division. The silver medals went to Shankar Singh Kuntiya (Youth D Speed Boys) and Manisha Hansda (Youth D Speed Girls), with Kuntiya also taking silver in the Youth D Boys Boulder event. Mora Biruli earned bronze in the Youth D Speed Boys round.
The competition tested young talent across all age classes—under‑13 and under‑15. Each discipline challenged the athletes’ speed, power, and precision, and the results highlight the growth of sport climbing in India.
“India’s young climbers performed exceptionally well, and we are proud of their achievements,” said a TSAF spokesperson in a press release. “Our academy has been a cornerstone of India’s climbing scene, hosting the Asian Kids Championships in Jamshedpur in 2022 and 2023. These experiences give our athletes a vital international edge.”
TSAF’s repeated hosting of IFSC events and its focus on grassroots development have helped build a strong foundation for Indian sport climbing. The six medals won in Pune underline the foundation’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of climbers and signal a bright future for India on the global climbing stage.
