MoS Margherita holds talks with Ecuadorian Ministers to boost bilateral cooperation
In Quito, India’s Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita met with Ecuadorian ministers, vice‑ministers and officials to widen ties in a wide range of areas. The talks covered everything from agriculture and artificial intelligence to cyber security, training, education, culture, tourism, trade and pharmaceuticals.
Margherita said the discussions showed a strong commitment from India to use the South‑South cooperation model to deepen partnership with Ecuador. In a post on X, the minister wrote that meetings with Ecuadorian officials were “productive” and that the two sides will work harder on joint projects in agriculture, AI, cyber security and health.
He also had a key meeting with Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign and Human Mobility Affairs, Gabriela Sommerfeld. The pair explored ways to boost political ties, trade, pharmaceuticals and capacity building. While talking, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate between the two countries’ diplomatic training institutions.
On Thursday, Margherita and Sommerfeld opened the first resident Embassy of India in Quito. The ceremony marked a new chapter in India‑Ecuador relations and underlined India’s determination to strengthen its presence in Latin America.
In addition to ministerial talks, Margherita met business leaders to find ways to increase bilateral trade. The meeting is part of his first official visit to Ecuador, which is the first stop on a three‑country tour of the Latin American and Caribbean Region that will include Bolivia and Cuba.
By building connections across agriculture, AI, trade and education, India and Ecuador are setting a clear path for stronger South‑South cooperation and a future of shared growth.
