Patna, Nov 8 – The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday, accusing authorities of suspicious activity in a key strong‑room in Hajipur, Vaishali district.
The party shared short CCTV clips on its X (formerly Twitter) account. In the footage, several cameras from different Assembly constituencies appear to have been switched off one after another. A pickup van was also seen entering and exiting the strong‑room late at night.
In a strong‑worded post, the RJD claimed that the “biggest vote thief” has been “camping” in Bihar for days under the guise of campaigning. The party warned that the state would not tolerate what it calls “election tampering” and urged the media to stop burying the story. “Bihar will teach these outsiders a lesson,” the RJD wrote on X.
ECI’s quick response
The ECI acted swiftly, telling reporters that it had already begun a preliminary inquiry. The commission said the CCTV feeds from the strong-room were displayed at two locations: the main control room and a separate screen for party observers.
ECI explained that the control‑room screens ran continuously. The only glitch occurred at a display used for the 129 Mahanar Assembly segment, which timed out automatically and was restarted quickly. Other displays ran without interruption, and the control‑room feed for Mahanar remained unchanged.
Regarding the pickup van, the commission said it belonged to security staff stationed at the strong‑room. The vehicle had brought bedding and supplies to the college campus, left within 15 minutes, and its entry was recorded in the guard register.
The ECI also reminded the public that the strong‑room operates under a three‑tier security system. Kundan Kumar, the RJD representative from Lalganj who posted the video, confirmed the facts during the investigation.
“The post is baseless and misleading,” the ECI declared, urging people to wait for the final report.
