Punjab: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta attacks Kejriwal in Tarn Taran poll rally

New Delhi – On Saturday, Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta campaigned for BJP candidate Shree Harjeet Singh Sandhu in the Tarn Taran Assembly by‑poll, a key test for the national government as the 11 November election nears.
During a large rally, Gupta urged voters to back the BJP in Punjab. She said the state’s problems—murder, extortion, land grabbing, looting and a surge in drug use—show that current policies have failed. “Punjab used to feed India. Now drugs and corruption are hurting families, especially mothers and young people,” she said.
Gupta blamed the AAP‑led state government under Arvind Kejriwal for the woes. She criticised the “war on drugs” promises that, in her view, only kept the drug network alive while wasting public money on corruption and luxury. She called the Land Pooling scheme a scam that forced people to sell land and later dropped the plan after backlash.
The chief minister also accused Kejriwal’s administration of selling public lands without building new roads, bridges or colleges. “Where’s the money? It’s gone to corruption, not to public works,” she said. “They live in government bungalows and turn them into palaces like they did in Delhi.”
Gupta used the rally to boost the BJP’s organization in Punjab and to plan strategies for the by‑poll. She began her visit with prayers at the Darbar Sahib in Tarn Taran, then went to the Thakurdwara Temple, where she met devotees. Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa accompanied her.
“In Delhi, we have deep ties with Punjab—culturally, socially, and emotionally,” Modi’s ally said. “The bond is stronger than geography. We have to keep this partnership alive.”
She framed the poll as more than a single seat; it’s a chance to decide Punjab’s future direction. “The BJP model in Delhi is working, and by winning this election we can bring similar progress to Punjab,” Gupta told the crowd.
For voters, the main messages were clear: choose the BJP to fight drug misuse, stop land grabs, and use public funds for development. The 11 November result will show whether Delhi’s ties to Punjab can shape the state’s next chapter.
