Stalin warns of ‘dangerous’ voter roll revision, urges DMK cadre to guard people‘s franchise

In Chennai on Sunday, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and DMK president met by video call with district secretaries, MPs, MLAs and constituency observers. The meeting set out a plan to keep the state’s voter lists accurate and free from tampering.

Stalin said the “special intensive revision” of the electoral rolls is under serious scrutiny. He warned that voters, and even poll officials, often do not know how the process works. “We need to act carefully and be on guard against mistakes or intentional omissions,” he told the group.

He urged DMK workers to double‑check that no eligible voter is left out and that nobody is wrongly added. Stalin also claimed that rivals, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), might try to manipulate the rolls to keep the DMK out of power. He asked district secretaries to monitor every polling station personally.

Later, the chief minister posted on his X page that Tamil Nadu faces a “danger of a special and radical voter list revision.” He warned that millions could lose their right to vote if the process is mismanaged. “It is our duty to protect the people from this trap,” he said. The DMK pledged to step up scrutiny at all polling booths to stop any manipulation.

“Democracy starts with a clean electoral list,” Stalin added. “We will not allow anyone to disenfranchise honest voters or change the voter base arbitrarily.”
