MoS for Road Transport and Highways reviews Central, state projects in Manipur

In a visit to the tribal‑sided Churachandpur district of Manipur, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta stepped into the town’s Mini Secretariat on Tuesday, November 11. He met district officials, beneficiaries of government schemes and residents of displaced communities.

Tamta kicked off the day with a review meeting that brought together Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S, district officers, representatives of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and scheme beneficiaries. The meeting underscored the district’s focus on inclusive growth and welfare for everyone living in the area.

The Minister hosted a small ceremony where he handed out awards to five students who had been affected by ethnic violence and who had now excelled in their board exams. The awards highlighted the government’s commitment to education and support for displaced families.

A key part of the day was the distribution of benefits under several flagship programmes: the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM‑FME), the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). These schemes aim to boost local food processing, agriculture, clean water access and health coverage.

The event also celebrated achievements from competitions organized to mark Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025. Participants who stood out were congratulated on the spot.

Tamta gave special recognitions to Lalthazam, the Chief Executive Officer of the Autonomous District Council; Seiminthang from the same council; and two fellows from the Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP). These awards praised their work in driving local development projects.

After the ceremony, the minister toured the progress of departmental work under central and state schemes. He met with officials from multiple departments and aspirational blocks, praised their efforts, and pledged ongoing central support to overcome local challenges and strengthen on‑the‑ground implementation.

Earlier this week, Union Ministers of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Women & Child Development Savitri Thakur visited other districts in Manipur, reviewing how central and state projects were being put into action. The series of visits illustrates the government’s drive to keep development momentum in the region.
