Partha Chatterjee’s letter to Mamata Banerjee questioning suspension from TMC unlikely to get a response

Partha Chatterjee, the former West Bengal education minister and ex‑Secretary General of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), sent a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asking why the party dropped him after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in July 2022.
The timing was key—Chatterjee just got out of jail on Tuesday after three years and three months in custody over a “school‑job” corruption case. On the same day, he wrote to Banerjee seeking clear answers about the party rules that led to his indefinite suspension.

Sources inside the TMC say the party’s top brass will almost certainly ignore the letter. One senior leader told reporters that no one in the leadership has responded and no directive has been issued that would prompt a reply. Workers close to Chatterjee shared the contents of the letter on social media, but the party insists it will not acknowledge or act on it.

Chatterjee had already lost all his ministerial portfolios and the TMC’s main Secretary General post following his arrest. The party previously had a history of backing leaders charged by central agencies, but Chatterjee’s case appears to be an exception. With no signs of dialogue, his appeal for clarification may end up unheard in West Bengal’s political arena.
