Ever wondered what tunes the legendary A.R. Rahman loves to listen to? The music maestro, known for his magical Bollywood and Tamil hits, recently shared his favorites in a fun chat with .
Rahman confessed he’s a big fan of his own 1992 Tamil classic “Roja,” starring Arvind Swamy and Madhoo. “I love listening to those songs,” he said with a smile. When asked who his top composer inspirations are, Rahman didn’t hold back. He named icons like Naushad saab, S.D. Burman, Salil Chowdhury, R.D. Burman, and the dynamic trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. He also shouted out Amit Trivedi and independent artist Pratik. “There are so many talented young composers rising every day—they’re getting better and better. I wish them all the best!” Rahman added.
But that’s not all. The Oscar-winning composer opened up about his soft spot for Marvel movies. Rahman and his team make it a ritual to catch these superhero flicks together. “We go as a group—20-30 of us—in the theater every two to three months. We sit at the back, munch on popcorn, and just enjoy like any fans,” he revealed. They love the Marvel music too, soaking in the sounds and vibes from a regular viewer’s eyes.
No favorite Marvel character for Rahman, though. “It’s all about checking out the sound design,” he explained. And does he ever switch off his creative brain while watching? Not really. “With a mind like mine, you can’t help noticing everything—the panning of songs, the scores, if they’re innovative or could be better. It’s like how fans critique my work!” he laughed.
Rahman’s insights give us a peek into the fun side of this A.R. Rahman favorite, blending his love for timeless Indian music with blockbuster Hollywood thrills.
