IPL retention talks underway, says LSG owner Goenka ahead of Nov 15 deadline

Lucknow, India – The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have kicked off talks to keep their key players before the IPL retention deadline on November 15, according to franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka.

LSG finished seventh last season, winning six of 14 matches under captain‑coach Rishabh Pant. The team has shown strong form in its first two years, reaching the knock‑outs in both 2022 and 2023.

Goenka posted on X that “IPL retention talks for @LucknowIPL are underway.” He added that the club is excited to welcome former Australian player and coach Tom Moody as the new Global Director of Cricket. “We had a great discussion with Pant, Justin Langer, and Bharat Arun as we plan for the season ahead.”

A photo from the meeting showed Goenka’s son, co‑owner Shashwat Goenka, and team analyst Shrinivas Chandrashekaran. In the wake of a disappointing 2025 campaign, LSG reshuffled its coaching staff. Langer kept his role, while Bharat Arun joined as bowling coach and Carl Crowe took over spin coaching.

Moody replaced former captain Zaheer Khan in the director position. Once the retention deadline passes, the mini‑auction for the 2026 IPL season will likely take place on December 15 or 16 in Abu Dhabi.

Retaining core players will prove tough. Fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who LSG kept for ₹11 crore, is still rehabbing at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after a back surgery in New Zealand. He may miss the first half of IPL 2026.

Other big names not meeting expectations include David Miller, Arshin Kulkarni, and Shamar Joseph. Rumours also swirl that LSG could trade all‑rounder Shardul Thakur before the retention deadline, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Stay tuned as the Lucknow Super Giants work to rebuild their squad for the next season.
