VfL Wolfsburg just scored a big win for their midfield by signing Danish star Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The 33-year-old midfielder, who left Manchester United at the end of last season, has inked a two-year deal and will rock the number 24 jersey.

This marks Eriksen’s exciting entry into Bundesliga football after successful stints in the Netherlands, England, and Italy. “VfL Wolfsburg is my first club in the Bundesliga, and I’m thrilled for this new adventure,” the Danish playmaker shared. He praised the positive talks with the management and head coach Paul Simonis’s clear team vision. Plus, linking up with several Denmark national team teammates makes the move even sweeter.

Eriksen brings a treasure trove of experience to Wolfsburg. As Denmark’s most-capped player with 144 appearances and 46 goals, he’s shone in over 100 Champions League and Europa League games. In the Premier League, he racked up more than 300 matches for Tottenham, Brentford, and Manchester United. Don’t forget his Serie A triumph with Inter Milan before heading back to England in 2022.

Wolfsburg’s sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz couldn’t hide his excitement. “Eriksen is a true leader who can change games on and off the pitch,” he said. The club focused on young talents this summer, and Eriksen perfectly pairs with captain Max Arnold. His skills, experience, and personality will guide the younger squad members.

The signing reunites Eriksen with fellow Danes at the club, including CEO Peter Christiansen and five national team players: Joakim Maehle, Jesper Lindstrom, Andreas Skov Olsen, Adam Daghim, and Jonas Wind.

Eriksen’s story is one of incredible resilience. He suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 but bounced back to elite football within a year, rebuilding at Brentford and Manchester United. Now, he’s ready for his Bundesliga challenge.

Fans might see him debut this weekend when Wolfsburg takes on Cologne at the Volkswagen Arena. What a way to kick off!
