Iran says West renewing nuclear talks push after ‘failed’ military strikes

Tehran, Nov. 17 – Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, told reporters in Tehran that Western powers are once again calling for talks over Iran’s nuclear programme after recent strikes failed to hit their aims.

Araghchi said the push for dialogue comes naturally because “military attacks didn’t deliver what the West sought.” He made clear that Iran sees no military solution to the dispute.

“We won’t accept talks imposed by pressure,” Araghchi said. “Negotiations must be based on reasonable, logical principles, not on dictating or bullying.”

The Iranian minister claimed that the United States and Israel did not achieve any of their goals through the latest conflict. He added that airstrikes can damage Iran’s facilities but cannot destroy its nuclear technology or resolve. “Our facilities were destroyed, but our technology remains, and our will is even stronger,” he added.

Araghchi said Iran has always been ready for serious talks if the conditions are right, emphasizing that diplomacy remains “the ultimate solution” for regional disputes.

Iran and the U.S. had held five rounds of indirect, Oman‑mediated talks on the nuclear issue and U.S. sanctions relief. A sixth round was planned when Israel launched major airstrikes on June 13 that targeted nuclear and military sites in Iran, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians. The U.S. followed with strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan on June 22.

At a conference titled “International Law Under Attack: Aggression and Defence,” Araghchi accused Washington and its allies of pushing a “force‑based” global order. He said the current international climate reflects an anti‑international‑law stance that favors a West‑centered “rules‑based” order over a true law‑based one.

“The U.S. – and some other governments – are normalising war and violence, using force as a routine foreign‑policy tool,” he said. “Their reckless use of force undermines the foundations of international law and amounts to a law of the jungle that cannot last.”
