The 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to kick off in early January, with the exact dates and venues still being finalized. Sources close to the BCCI say the tournament could start on January 7, with January 6 or 8 also under discussion. The championship match is likely to take place between February 1‑3, just before the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup begins in India and Sri Lanka. This will be the first time the WPL opens in January, a shift from the February‑March schedule used in the past.

After a successful 2025 season in Lucknow, Bengaluru, Vadodara, and Mumbai, where Mumbai Indians won their second title under Harmanpreet Kaur, the league is looking for new locations. Two venue plans are on the table. One option keeps the entire event at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, both iconic for women’s cricket after India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup win at the DY Patil venue. The other plan splits the matches, with the first half in Navi Mumbai and the second half at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara – a city that will also host the opening of the India‑New Zealand ODI series on January 11.

An official announcement of the schedule is expected during the WPL 2026 mega auction in New Delhi on November 27. The Baroda Cricket Association is hopeful that Vadodara will join the list of host cities, while owners of WPL teams are eagerly awaiting confirmation. Stay tuned for the final dates and stadiums, which will shape the biggest women’s cricket league in India as it gears up for 2026.
