‘Veiled attempt to intimidate’: Congress on row over Rahul ‘breaching’ security protocol

Congress Slams CRPF Over Rahul Gandhi Security Complaint, Calls It Intimidation Tactic
New Delhi: The Congress party fired back hard on Thursday against a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) complaint accusing Rahul Gandhi of breaching security protocols. Party leaders suspect it’s a sneaky move to scare the Leader of Opposition just as he gears up for another big reveal on alleged electoral fraud.
Pawan Khera, who heads the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) media and publicity wing, took to X (formerly Twitter) to question the whole thing. "The timing of this CRPF letter and its quick public release is super suspicious," he posted. This comes right after CRPF wrote to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, pointing fingers at Gandhi for ignoring security rules multiple times.
Khera didn’t hold back, linking it to Gandhi’s ongoing fight against what he calls the BJP’s "Vote Chori" – or vote theft – with the Election Commission’s help. "Is this the government’s way to bully the Leader of Opposition? Are they spooked by the truth Rahul Gandhi is about to drop?" he asked, hinting at fresh exposes on electoral malpractices.
The CRPF letter, dated September 10 and signed by VVIP Security chief Sunil June, spells out serious worries. It claims the Raebareli MP, a top VVIP with Z+ security cover, treats his protection like it’s optional. Gandhi often skips protocols, putting his safety and his team’s at risk, the letter says.
This drama unfolded soon after a messy incident during Gandhi’s visit to his Raebareli Lok Sabha seat on Wednesday. BJP workers blocked the highway, shouted "Rahul Gandhi, go back!" slogans, and turned it into a standoff. Gandhi’s convoy got stuck for around 15 minutes while police pushed back the protesters in a heated verbal clash. Only after cops cleared the way did the convoy move on – a clear security headache.
The CRPF also flagged Gandhi’s surprise foreign trips. In the last nine months, he took six such tours without giving his security team a heads-up, causing major chaos for them. As a Z+ protectee, rules demand he notifies them at least 15 days ahead for any international travel. But Gandhi hasn’t been playing by the book.
Take his recent Malaysia trip, for example. BJP leaders mocked it as a "holiday jaunt" during key Vice Presidential polls, and photos showed him strolling around without visible security – a big no-no.
Congress sees this CRPF move as politically motivated, especially with Gandhi ramping up attacks on the ruling party’s alleged poll tricks. As the row heats up, all eyes are on what bombshell the Leader of Opposition might unleash next in his battle against electoral irregularities.
