Tennis Premier League’s Race to Gold Gujarat Masters gets underway in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Nov 22 – After a strong opening in Delhi, the Tennis Premier League’s (TPL) Race to Gold Masters kicked off in Ahmedabad on Saturday. In partnership with the Gujarat State Tennis Association, the event will be held at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium across the weekend of Nov 22‑23.

The Race to Gold Masters is a key element of TPL’s pledge to spot and nurture India’s next tennis talents. Its distinctive 25‑point format gives participants a unique platform to shine.

The competition covers U10, U12, U14 and the Men’s and Women’s Open brackets, with the aim of bolstering the domestic tennis scene. A total of 160 players from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Bhavnagar and Bharuch will compete, 40 from each city, spanning all categories.

Champions in each of the eight divisions will earn ₹75,000 scholarships and the chance to meet legends such as Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna, alongside other international stars who are part of TPL’s seventh season. They will also receive formal recognition at a grand awards ceremony scheduled for the TPL season that runs from Dec 9‑14, 2025.

Key figures at the launch include TPL Co‑Founders Kunal Thakkur and Mrunal Jain, along with Krishna Zaveri – President, GSTA; Shrimal Bhatt – GSTA General Secretary; Rupak Kapadia – Director of Tennis, Gujarat University Tennis Centre; Ajay Vasani – Director of Tennis, Gujarat University Tennis Centre; and Vaidik Munshaw – Director of Tennis, Gujarat University Tennis Centre.

Speaking on the initiative, Kunal Thakkur expressed enthusiasm: “Bringing the Race to Gold Gujarat Masters to Ahmedabad is thrilling. Ahmedabad sits at the core of India’s sporting evolution, especially with the 2030 Commonwealth Games and a bold bid for the 2036 Olympics centred here. This event echoes India’s Olympic aspirations and our commitment to developing a player capable of winning an Olympic medal in tennis. It also sets the tone for Season 7, which will return to this very venue next month.”

Mrunal Jain echoed the sentiment, adding, “The Race to Gold Gujarat Masters makes this moment even more special, as it signals our commitment to elevating Indian tennis. Hosting the event at TPL here feels personal; I’m an Ahmedabadi boy, and it truly feels like bringing the event home. Season 7 of the TPL promises to be a major hit, with top players, heightened competition, and an atmosphere that celebrates tennis’s growth in India. Over the years, the league has united rising talent, international stars and passionate fans, and this season will take that legacy further.”

Krishna Zaveri, President of GSTA, highlighted the opportunity: “Hosting a Tennis Premier League tournament offers a major platform for GSTA. Big names from Indian and international tennis unify here, inspiring young players and accelerating the sport’s growth across the state. For GSTA, this aligns with our mission to build a stronger, more inclusive tennis ecosystem. TPL will play a pivotal role in elevating Gujarat’s tennis landscape and motivating the next generation of athletes.”

The TPL caravan will head back to Ahmedabad for its seventh season, marking a pivotal expansion beyond Maharashtra for the first time since TPL’s founding. Moreover, this year will feature the first inclusion of players ranked in the ATP/WTA Top 50, giving Gujarat fans the chance to witness world‑class action on home turf.

The Tennis Premier League Season 7 is slated to run from Dec 9‑14 at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium in Ahmedabad.
