Shreyanka Patil relishing being back in action after 11 months of run-in with injuries

Shreyanka Patil’s emotional return to cricket after 11 tough months of injuries has fans buzzing. The young Indian all-rounder, known for her fiery bowling in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and Women’s T20 World Cup, stepped back onto the field for the Barbados Royals in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). And guess what? She couldn’t hold back the tears – but these were happy ones, full of relief.

Picture this: Shreyanka, the bubbly 20-year-old from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), had her world turned upside down after the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. India didn’t make the semis, but that wasn’t the real blow. She picked up grade three shin splints in both legs – a painful injury that sidelined her big time. Just when rehab seemed to be working, it flared up again. Then came a wrist stress reaction, and to top it off, a fractured thumb during a training session at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Talk about bad luck!

She even got dropped from the India ‘A’ tour to Australia. For someone who debuted in WPL 2023, grabbed the Purple Cap as the top wicket-taker in 2024, and helped RCB win their first title, missing out hurt deep. And missing WPL 2025? That broke her. “I was on a flight to Mumbai when I heard, and I just broke down at Jemimah Rodrigues’ place,” she shared in a chat with , set up by FanCode, the WCPL broadcaster.

Those months weren’t easy. Shreyanka opened up about the dark thoughts: doubts about her future in cricket, even wondering if she should quit. “I was like, ‘Let me stop playing, take a long break, and refresh,'” she admitted. Facing her parents and coach Arjun Dev felt impossible at times. But she didn’t give up. Instead, she turned to friends like Smriti Mandhana, Arundhati Reddy, and Jemimah for support. To beat the boredom of rehab, she picked up painting, dancing, and strumming a guitar Jemimah gifted her. Meditation, visualization, and an online course kept her mind sharp.

The real game-changer? Her diary. Every day, she’d scribble her feelings – happy, upset, grateful – even for tiny wins like watching Wimbledon. “Those small moments pulled me out,” she said. At the National Cricket Academy (NCA), she bonded with other injured stars. Renuka Singh Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar shared their stories, while men’s team players like Suryakumar Yadav (recovering from hernia surgery), Riyan Parag, and Mayank Yadav offered motivation. “Sky told me to be patient – it made a huge difference,” Shreyanka recalled. These chats showed her she wasn’t alone; everyone battles their own demons.

Now, back in WCPL action against Guyana Amazon Warriors, her stats were 0-33 in three overs – but who cares? She was bowling again, loving every second. This isn’t just a comeback; it’s a fresh start. Shreyanka’s already eyeing WPL and India duties. “I’m grateful to be on the field,” she said, eyes sparkling with that warrior spirit.

Shreyanka Patil’s journey from injury heartbreak to WCPL triumph proves resilience wins. For aspiring cricketers and fans, her story is pure inspiration – a reminder that pushing through tough times brings you back stronger.
