Army Chief Reviews Security in Manipur Ahead of PM Modi’s Possible Visit

In Manipur, security teams are on high alert as Prime Minister Narendra Modi might visit the state on September 13. A senior Army officer recently checked the situation in key areas, including border spots with Myanmar, to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, who leads the Spear Corps, visited Churachandpur district as part of a bigger security review across Manipur. He also stopped by Imphal, Bishnupur, and forward posts along the India-Myanmar border. This shows the Indian Army’s strong focus on staying ready and working closely with other agencies.

During his trip, Lt Gen Pendharkar talked to troops about the current security challenges, especially in tricky border zones. He praised soldiers from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Manipur Police for their hard work and high spirits despite tough conditions.

The visit highlighted how the Army and Assam Rifles team up with locals and veterans for better security. Lt Gen Pendharkar met 61 people, including ex-servicemen, Veer Naris (war widows), and active personnel. They honored senior veterans with gifts to thank them for their service. The ex-servicemen felt valued, strengthening ties between the forces and communities.

On the political side, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met five MLAs from the Kuki-Zo communities in Churachandpur on Tuesday. They discussed the Prime Minister’s potential trip. Earlier, on September 7, the Governor chatted with BJP MLAs from Imphal Valley, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and state BJP chief Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi.

Top officials like Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, and Home Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar joined these talks at Raj Bhavan. But everyone kept quiet about the details.

Manipur BJP leaders say the PM’s visit isn’t fully confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) yet. Reports suggest Modi will head to Aizawl in Mizoram first to launch the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang railway project. From there, he could stop at Imphal and Churachandpur in Manipur.

Preparations are in full swing in Imphal, the state capital, and the tribal district of Churachandpur. Security measures include restrictions in both areas to follow protocols.

In Churachandpur, the district administration banned drones, UAVs, balloons, and other flying objects ahead of the VVIP visit. District Magistrate Dharun Kumar S. declared the whole hill district a "No Drone Zone" to keep things safe.

With tensions in Manipur, these steps aim to ensure a secure environment for any high-profile events. Stay tuned for updates on PM Modi’s Manipur visit and India-Myanmar border security.
