India one of the most important relationships our nation has in world: Next US Ambassador to Delhi

Sergio Gor, US President Donald Trump’s pick for the next Ambassador to India, sees the country as a key strategic partner that could shape the entire region and beyond. During his confirmation hearing before the Senate on Thursday, Gor shared his vision for boosting ties between the two nations.
“I promise to strengthen our defense and economic partnerships with India,” Gor said. He pointed out India’s prime location, booming economy, and strong military as reasons why it’s a rock-solid force for stability in the Indo-Pacific region. “India is one of our most vital global relationships. I’ll push forward the president’s goals by ramping up defense cooperation, securing fair trade deals, ensuring energy security, and advancing tech collaborations,” he added.
Gor put a big emphasis on defense ties. “I’ll focus on deepening security partnerships with India, like expanding joint military exercises, co-developing and co-producing defense systems, and sealing important arms deals,” he explained.
He also highlighted India’s huge potential thanks to its 1.4 billion people and fast-growing middle class. “This demographic boom opens massive doors for the US in areas from artificial intelligence and pharmaceuticals to critical minerals. The collaboration possibilities are endless,” Gor noted.
Introducing Gor at the hearing, Secretary of State Marco Rubio called US-India relations one of America’s top global ties, especially during this time of big changes. “We’ve even renamed our Indo-Pacific combatant command to put India at its heart,” Rubio said.
Just a day earlier, on Wednesday, India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, welcomed Gor’s nomination. “President Trump is sending one of his closest aides to India, showing how much he values our bilateral ties and wants to build even stronger bridges of friendship,” Kwatra posted on X.
Trump first announced Gor’s nomination on August 22 via Truth Social. “For the world’s most populous region, I need someone I trust completely to push my agenda and help Make America Great Again. Sergio will be an outstanding ambassador,” the president wrote. Trump also said Gor would double as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs.
At just 38, Gor already leads the White House Presidential Personnel Office, where he vets over 4,000 key positions in the new administration. His close role with Trump makes him a strong choice to handle the growing US-India strategic partnership.
