Hugh Jackman opens up on returning as Wolverine

Los Angeles – Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman made a surprising statement on The Graham Norton Show that he will never again say he’s finished playing Wolverine. He had publicly announced after Logan’s 2017 release that he was done with the role, only to return for the 2024 Marvel hit Deadpool and Wolverine seven years later. When asked about his earlier “never” declaration, Jackman laughed, saying, “Every time you’re on (talk show), you gotta go, ‘Nope, I’m not doing that again’. But then you keep making another one. And it’s a big big hit. So are you gonna have to do it again? Maybe. I am never saying ‘never’ ever again. But I did mean it when I said ‘never’ (the first time), until the day when I changed my mind. But I really did for quite a few years, I meant it.” According to Variety, while promoting Deadpool and Wolverine last year, Jackman admitted that his retirement from the character felt complicated after watching the first Deadpool film. He stated, “I was like, ‘Those two characters together’. I knew it. I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew”, when speaking with Fandango. He went on to explain that he called Ryan Reynolds and said, “Let’s do it”, before even informing his agent that he had committed to the new movie. Yet not everyone was convinced he should return. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Empire, “I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’”, adding “You had the greatest ending in history with ‘Logan’. That’s not something we should undo.” When audiences finally saw him on screen in Deadpool and Wolverine, they discovered Jackman didn’t reprise the Logan version of Wolverine but instead stepped into a new variant created by Marvel’s multiverse.
