RJD delegation meets EC officials, raises concerns over poll fairness

RJD Leaders Meet Election Commission Officials in Delhi Over Bihar Polls Concerns

Patna: A team from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) recently visited Delhi to meet top Election Commission of India (ECI) officials. Led by Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha and Buxar Lok Sabha MP Sudhakar Singh, the delegation pushed hard for more transparency and fairness in the Bihar Assembly elections.

Manoj Jha, who also serves as RJD’s national spokesperson, shared updates after the meeting. He explained that the party laid out all their worries in detail to the Election Commissioner. "We talked about everything from postal ballots to how claims and objections work during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists," Jha said. "We’re hopeful the Commission will act positively on these points to make things fairer."

This meeting comes at a crucial time for Bihar elections. RJD has long called for stronger electoral reforms and a more independent Election Commission. Party leaders stress that only an unbiased ECI can keep democracy alive and ensure every vote counts.

The discussion gained extra importance amid growing doubts from opposition parties about the Commission’s neutrality. By raising these issues formally, RJD is stepping up as a key player in the INDIA bloc while fighting for better safeguards before the high-stakes Bihar polls.

Backlash Over Massive Voter List Deletions in Bihar

Tensions are high after the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls. The ECI removed over 65 lakh names from the voter list, citing reasons like duplicate entries, voter migration, or deaths.

But opposition groups, including RJD, Congress, Left parties, and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), aren’t buying it quietly. They claim the deletions might have wrongly targeted genuine voters, potentially tilting the Bihar Assembly elections unfairly.

The controversy even reached the Supreme Court. The court stepped in and ordered the Election Commission to publish the full list of deleted names right away. Justices highlighted the need for full transparency to stop eligible voters from losing their right to vote.

On another note, Jha addressed recent buzz around Congress’s comments on Tejashwi Yadav as the chief ministerial face for Bihar. "Every party has its view," he said casually. "But Bihar’s people clearly want Tejashwi Yadav as their next CM."

As Bihar Assembly elections heat up, these moves show RJD’s focus on clean polls and voter rights. Stay tuned for more updates on Bihar elections and Election Commission decisions.
