Fog, smog grip Delhi as air quality remains in ‘very poor’ category

New Delhi – Nov 26 (LatestNewsX) – By about 7:40 a.m., a thin veil of fog had settled over India Gate and Kartavya Path, reducing sight distances and pushing the Air Quality Index to roughly 350, which the Ministry classifies as “very poor.”
The same smog blanket was seen on the foot‑overbridge at ITO that early morning, with an AQI again close to 350 and signalling a hazardous start to the day for commuters in the heart of the city.

Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) indicates Delhi’s overall AQI was 337, a slight lift from the previous Tuesday. Out of 39 monitoring posts across the Capital, 34 reported “very poor” air quality and five marked the “poor” level.

Twelve key pollution hotspots were still choking under toxic air at 7 a.m. The numbers were stark: Rohini hit 376, Delhi Technological University 367, Anand Vihar 364, Bawana 382, Ashok Vihar 364, Burari 347, Alipur 344, ITO 360, and Dwarka 361—all flagged as “very poor.”

Across the National Capital Region, Noida likewise faced relentless pollution. Major stations recorded very bad air: Sector 1 recorded 355, Sector 62 304, Sector 116 372, and Sector 125 a staggering 399, just shy of the “severe” threshold.

The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi projects that the very poor condition will persist from November 26 through 28, with the fog and contaminants likely to swing between “severe” and “very poor” over the next week.

Looking back over the last week, CPCB’s figures show Delhi’s average AQI consistently stayed above safe levels: 391 on Sunday, 370 on Saturday, 374 on Friday, 391 on Thursday, 392 on Wednesday, 374 on Tuesday, and 351 on Monday.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects moderate fog on Wednesday, with daytime highs around 24 °C and nighttime lows near 9 °C.
