Meenakshi Seshadri showcases her passion for Bharatanatyam as she announces learning series
Meenakshi Seshadri, a veteran of Hindi cinema, just lit up her social‑media following with a new Bharatanatyam project. In a clip she posted on Instagram, the seasoned actress explains that she’ll deconstruct the classical dance’s syllabus, celebrating its depth and her own lifelong training. The video shows her performing each step, walking viewers through the choreography as she goes.
For the caption, the “Ghatak” actress wrote, “With a most humility, I want to say that I am very fortunate to have been trained in the Indian classical dance style of BharatNatyam. I’m starting a small series which puts down what is the curriculum in a course of Bharat Natyam Dance #dance #celebrity #course #curriculum #fundamentals.”
Meenakshi’s active online presence means she often shares personal moments. Earlier, she’d filmed herself singing the hit “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye” at a Kolkata event.
At 62, Meenakshi remains a celebrated figure from the 1980s and 1990s Bollywood scene. She first appeared on the silver screen in 1983 with “Painter Babu,” but it was the next film, “Hero,” that catapulted her to overnight fame.
Over the decades she’s delivered memorable starring roles in titles such as “Aandhi‑Toofan,” “Meri Jung,” “Swati,” “Dacait,” “Inaam Dus Hazaar,” “Shahenshah,” “Awaargi,” “Ghar Ho To Aisa,” “Damini,” and the iconic “Ghatak.” Her life and career were also chronicled in the documentary “Meenakshi: Accept Her Wings.”
Her most recent screen appearance was in the 1996 action thriller “Ghatak: Lethal,” helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film featured Sunny Deol, Amrish Puri, and Danny Denzongpa, and went on to become the highest‑grossing Bollywood release domestically that year and the second‑highest worldwide.
