President Trump has said he will not invite South African officials to the G‑20 summit in Miami next year, arguing that the country is carrying out a “genocide” of white farmers.
The decision follows the U.S.’s decision to largely boycott this year’s G‑20 meeting in Johannesburg after Trump posted the same “genocide” claim on Truth Social three days before the event ended.
In a tweet, Trump wrote that after the summit ended, South Africa “refused to hand off the G‑20 Presidency to a Senior Representative from our U.S. Embassy, who attended the Closing Ceremony.”
He added that, “at my direction, South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G‑20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year.” Trump went on to say that the nation had “shown the world that they are not a country worthy of Membership anywhere” and that “we are going to stop all payments and subsidies to them, effective immediately.”
Trump also explained that the U.S. did not attend this year’s summit because “the South African Government refuses to acknowledge or address the horrific Human Rights Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers.” He summarized the situation bluntly: “they are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them.”
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has strongly denied any genocide is occurring against white farmers.
Earlier in the year, Trump hosted Ramaphosa at the White House and played him a five‑minute video purporting to show evidence of crimes against humanity.
In that same briefing, Trump offered some Afrikaner South Africans – a white minority group – refugee status in the U.S. in response to the alleged humanitarian crisis.
The 2026 G‑20 summit will fall on South Africa’s 250th birthday and will be the first time the United States has hosted the forum since 2009. It is scheduled to take place at Trump’s own golf resort, Trump National Doral Miami.
