Delhi: Crime Branch arrests habitual offender with 68 cases, cracks snatching incident involving NRI woman

New Delhi – The Delhi Police Crime Branch secured a major win yesterday by taking into custody a repeat offender linked to 68 criminal cases. The suspect, known as Tarun alias Gadam Wala and a resident of Aman Vihar, had eluded authorities for over seven months and was proclaimed an absconder by a city court.
The arrest came after a Western Range‑I squad received a detailed tip on 24 November, leading them to the suspect’s address. Tarun, already listed as a Bad Character with PS Aman Vihar, had previously survived several police pursuits following a robbery that targeted a woman visiting Delhi from California.
The incident is recorded under FIR No. 508/2025 at the Karol Bagh police post and concerns an event on 5 April. At the time, a woman was returning from a PNB ATM on Padam Singh Road when two unnamed boys on a black scooter snatched her gold chain and fled toward Ganga Mandir Marg. The police statement reads:
“On April 5, 2025 at about 11:50 a.m., after withdrawing money from PNB ATM, Padam Singh Road, two unidentified boys on a black scooty snatched her gold chain (approx. 15 grams) and fled towards Ganga Mandir Marg. She raised an alarm, but they escaped,”
While the investigation led to the arrest of co‑accused Rahul, the driver, and the recovery of the scooter and gold chain, Tarun had continued to elude capture.
Under the leadership of Inspector Mahipal and with oversight from ACP Satendra Mohan, the team deployed covert intelligence and technical surveillance to locate Tarun in Aman Vihar, where he was taken into custody without resistance. During interrogation, Tarun admitted he was the pillion rider in the theft. He claimed that Rahul had appropriated the scooter for the crime and that he received ₹6,000 for his portion when the chain was sold. He also confessed that he was a drug user and committed the robbery to fund his habit. Tarun had been released from jail in January after serving time for a separate snatching case.
Police files indicate that the arrested individual has been implicated in 68 offenses ranging from snatching and theft to burglary, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act.
“Securing his arrest marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to curb repeat offenders and enhance public safety,” DCP Harsh Indora said.
