Picture abhi baaki hai, says BJP MP Bommai on CM, Dy CM breakfast meeting in K’taka

In a statement from New Delhi, former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai criticized Karnataka’s ceremonial “breakfast meeting” between CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, saying it was merely a teaser for a larger political drama. “The breakfast meeting between the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister is just a teaser; the real movie is yet to come. The film will be released in a few days. Picture abhi baaki hai,” he quipped, adding that the real story behind the party’s internal turmoil would soon be uncovered.

Bommai also questioned the Congress leadership’s ability to settle conflicts, asking where the high‑command was and what the “high‑command” even means now that AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge has denied the role. He implied that the issue has turned into a family squabble.

On X, opposition leader R. Ashoka slammed the government over its frequent breakfast get‑together, noting that 558 people have died in the last 11 months from pothole‑related accidents across the state’s five major cities. He warned that “Innocent citizens are losing their lives on the roads because of the misgovernance and incompetence of the Congress‑led Karnataka government.” Ashoka further complained that “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, potholes — as deadly as the god of death — have spread across the state. Roads everywhere have deteriorated. Despite ordinary people and motorists expressing their anger at the government every day, your thick‑skinned administration remains focused only on power sharing, breakfast meetings, and fulfilling selfish interests. This is a matter of shame.”

Earlier that day, Siddaramaiah joined Shivakumar for a casual breakfast at the Deputy CM’s home in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, where the pair enjoyed idli and a chicken gravy dish called “natikoli saaru.” Shivakumar’s brother D.K. Suresh and Congress MLA H.D. Ranganath also attended. The Deputy CM later tweeted, “Hosted the Hon’ble CM for breakfast at my residence today as we reaffirm our commitment to good governance and the continued development of our state under the Congress vision.”

The gathering was held at Shivakumar’s private residence to underscore unity before the state legislature’s Winter Session, slated to begin on December 8 in Belagavi. Following the meet, Siddaramaiah told reporters he and Shivakumar consider themselves brothers and will continue working in tandem for the party. When asked who would step into the chief minister’s role, he said it would happen when the high‑command decides it is the right time.

He recounted that he had accepted Shivakumar’s earlier invitation to his own house for breakfast or dinner and had since returned for another meal there. The two discussed party strategy, the impending Winter Session, and how to counter the BJP’s planned no‑confidence motion, noting that key opposition figures such as Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and R. Ashoka had already touched base. They also outlined plans for running the Assembly session effectively.
