New Delhi – Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, the CEO and Secretary General of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told LatestNewsX that President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India later today is expected to unfold as a “very, very important meeting” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the encounter could reinforce stability and help shape a new global order.
Mehta noted that the forthcoming talks carry significant weight for both nations and could inject fresh momentum into India‑Russia economic ties. He highlighted the potential to boost bilateral trade, investment and the long‑standing strategic partnership between the two countries.
“There are three main reasons why this meeting is important,” he explained. He quoted, “The investment opportunities for both the industries. Number two, India and Russia, they have very stable and time‑tested strategic partnership.” The third reason, according to Mehta, is the chance to extend cooperation beyond traditional sectors.
“The engagement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Putin will strengthen the stability and new global order,” he added. He also said this visit opens new avenues for collaboration as the two countries look to diversify their economic engagement.
He added, “This meeting gives an opportunity to diversify in various other fields as well. It also gives an opportunity to align the economic priorities between these two nations and it allows to look for new opportunities, especially in the field of defence, hydrocarbons, energy security and pharmaceuticals.”
Looking ahead, Mehta said Russia could increase imports from India, especially in pharmaceuticals, noting that India is one of the world’s largest generic drug manufacturers and a global pharmacy hub. “India and Russia share a relationship built not only on stability but a deep historical shared interests,” he told LatestNewsX. “Stronger trade links and deeper energy cooperation will help both economies grow in an uncertain and fast‑changing geopolitical environment,” he added.
